Holiday Luncheon with Guest Speaker Walter Hood / Hood Design Studio

Join the San Francisco Garden Club for a festive Holiday Luncheon at the Metropolitan Club filled with fine dining, friendship, and seasonal cheer.

Our special guest, Walter J. Hood, is a renowned environmental designer, landscape architect, artist, and educator. As Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, and Urban Design at UC Berkeley’s School of Architecture and founder of Hood Design Studio, he reimagines public spaces through history, culture, and ecology.

1n 1992 Walter Hood founded Hood Design Studio in Oakland, California where he leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to crafting spaces that resonate with and enrich their communities. His work reflects a deep passion for the democratic potential of landscape and urbanism, providing inclusive experiences that transcend traditional architectural constraints.

Hood’s exceptional contributions to landscape architecture and urban design have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious 2019 MacArthur Fellowship, the 2023 Architectural League’s President’s Medal, and the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s 2023 Innovator Award in Design.

His illustrated talk, “Past & Current Projects,” will explore the creative process behind his designs and his latest book, “The African Ancestors Garden: History and Memory at the International African American Museum,” published in 2025.
